Sample Topics for Teacher and Administrator Training, Coaching and Consulting :
- Cultivating a Compassion Based Framework to Support Resilience, Well-Being and Belonging : Based on doctoral research, this workshop discusses how amidst rising levels of traumatic experiences due to conflict, disease, and natural disasters, schools can adopt a compassion based framework to support student and staff's resilience, well-being, and belonging.
- Anti-Discriminatory Education: In this workshop, we examine a range of equity and diversity issues in the Ontario
education system for students from diverse backgrounds. We discuss anti-oppressive and strengths-based approaches to overcome deficit based thinking and examine practices through an anti-discriminatory lens. - Introduction to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion : In this workshop, participants will develop an understanding of the challenges and benefits of successfully embracing diversity, the impact of stereotypes on other communities and how behaviours, values, attitudes, and beliefs contribute to most situations
- Building Effective Cross Cultural Relationships through Compassionate Communication: In this workshop, participants will develop an understanding of how to build relationships with people from different cultured through learning about the Six Fundamental Patterns of Cultural Differences, guidelines for multicultural collaboration, and effective communication skills including compassionate communication.
- Culturally Responsive Teaching to Support Equity and Inclusivity in Schools: In this workshop, participants will develop an understanding of how students' varied social identities impact their interactions with school and society. Educators will learn about equity strategies which encourage teaching practices that engage a diversity of students with different learning backgrounds, strengths, needs, and interests.
- Understanding the unique needs of Muslim students: With the surge in refugees and immigrants, there are an increasing number of Muslim students in schools. In this workshop, participants will develop an understanding of the unique needs of Muslim students through learning about key aspects of Muslim culture and beliefs, which impact student thoughts, attitudes and behaviours.
- Adopting a Values Based Framework which Supports Character Education: In this workshop participants will learn about the importance of character development in fostering excellence in education, caring communities and students who think critically, feel compassionately and act consciously. Teachers will learn how character development can be integrated into the curriculum and culture of the school. In turn this will contribute to a respectful, safe, caring and inclusive school environment which is essential for real learning to happen.
- Planning Inquiry-based Teaching to Inspire Excellence: In this series of workshops, participants will become familiar with inquiry based teaching and learning which is an approach that empowers students to be involved in their learning by encouraging them to use inquiry and critical thinking skills to develop new understandings and ultimately take positive action. In turn students become lifelong learners who are more creative, positive and independent.
